Grape and its health benefits

Many horror stories and images come to mind when we hear the word ‘diet’. This is especially true if you have a sweet tooth. We think of Frankenstein and The Adams Family, where the life has completely been sucked from us.

We are almost depressed because it means no more sweet things to eat. How will we manage? Do we need to get counselling or maybe even hypnosis?

Will we die from lack of sweets? That must be a disease we can die from since we cannot fathom not feeding our daily sugar craving!

Well, that is until we start having grapes. The world starts spinning again and then we start thinking that “maybe it is possible for me to survive on this diet after all”.

Grape

The combination of unique texture and sweet, tart flavor has made grapes an ever popular between-meal snack as well as a refreshing addition to both fruit and vegetable salads.

Grapes are small round or oval berries that feature semi-translucent flesh encased by a smooth skin.

Some contain edible seeds while others are seedless. Like blueberries, grapes are often covered by a protective, whitish bloom.

Not only will it prevent sweet lovers from going into ‘withdrawal’ when they start eating healthy, it also helps the body to maintain its blood sugar balance. This is great for persons who struggle with high or low blood sugar levels.

Science has also linked grapes to longevity (long life) and anti-aging properties. This allows us to age healthily, while enjoying the fruit. In addition to that, grapes provide us with cognitive benefits which will make us smarter.

A study has shown that persons who drank a glass of Concord grape juice a day for a period of 2-3 months improved their scores on verbal reasoning tests. Well, I think I know quite a few people I need to buy grape juice for!

Grapes are also great in helping us prevent the development and growth of cancer cells. The antioxidants in grapes will help us to prevent stress and oxidation of our healthy cells and therefore reduce the risk or likelihood of damage.

So this one fruit is sweet, tasty and healthy all at once. No wonder persons feel guilty when having it.

It cannot possibly be good for you. Well the doctors allowed us this one, so the next time a sweet lover is dreading going on a diet – tell them about grapes. It will be hard to believe, but at least it will give them hope for sticking to their diet.
