Roselle, Scientific Name Hibiscus sabdariffa, is a shrub belonging to the Malvaceae family.

It is called sour tea in Iran. However, in English-speaking countries, it is called Red Sorrel.

It is originally from Africa but now widely naturalised in tropical and subtropical regions of the world particularly in India and Southeast Asia.

It is now commonly cultivated in Asia, Africa, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific as a home garden crop.
