Jamesia Americana

Jamesia americana is a genus of shrubs in the Hydrangeaceae, commonly known as Jamesia, cliffbush or waxflower.

It is native to interior western North America, in the U.S. states of California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Wyoming, growing in the mountains at 1600–3000 m altitude.

It is fragrant and as showy clusters of waxy, white flowers that appear in late spring on the shrub, with the added interest of flaking, reddish-brown bark.

Jamesia as heavy-textured, green foliage transforms to brilliant orange and pink tones in the autumn.

This western native adds winter interest with its silvery silhouette — an excellent choice for dry conditions.

Jamesia americana is a lovely deciduous shrub from the Northern USA.

The foliage is a soft green and lightly scalloped, held on stems to a height of around 1.5 metres high and wide.

Its flowers are very much hydrangea-like, and it belongs to the Hydrangea family of shrubs.

Five petals to each flower give it the common name of Fivepetal Waxflower, and it does have a waxy texture also.
