Lithops Plants

Lithops is a genus of succulent plants in the ice plant family, Aizoaceae.

Members of the genus are native to southern Africa.

The name is, derived from the Ancient Greek words meaning stone and face, referring to the stone-like appearance of the plants.

The Lithops plant lives long, up to 40 or 50 years.

It is possible to keep a plant in the same pot for 10 or 20 years. Lithops are non-toxic to humans or pets.

There are even some references to African children eating these plants as a means to quench their thirst.
