Tomato and its health benefits

Frequent consumers of hamburger meals at fast food restaurants usually try to convince their opponents that the food dubbed ‘unhealthy’ and ‘bad for the body’ is in fact recommended since one can receive a daily serving of vegetables in it, which is, tomato slices.

Can this be even humanly possible? Two slices negate all the ‘bad’ to provide an overall ‘good’?

Well firstly, tomato is a fruit, not a vegetable. This eludes many persons mainly because of the fact that tomato is normally prepared and served with other vegetables, therefore persons think it must be a vegetable.

Tomato

This fruit has its benefits, like every other.

The tomato is most popularly known for its antioxidants that help in the prevention and fight against prostate cancer. Dr. John Cook Bennett of the Institute of Aberdeen also found that the yellow gel surrounding tomato seeds could prevent clotting so as to prevent strokes and heart disease.

Nutrients like Niacin and folate reduce heart problems to a great extent.

Other health benefits include –

  •
Tomatoes work against impotency and help increase the sperm count.
  •
Tomatoes are powerful blood purifiers and clear up urinary tract infections.
  •
They have antioxidant properties as they are high sources of vitamin C and vitamin A. The Vitamin A especially wards off macular degeneration and improves eyesight.
  •
A person who drinks 8 ounces of low sodium tomato juice a day, can prevent inflammatory diseases like osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s.
  • They are good for improving skin porosity and are widely used in the manufacture of skin care and beauty products.

So with all these benefits tomato has to offer, could one really expect it to come from a sandwich? While there are no recommended amounts of tomato given, doctors believe that tomatoes preserve the health of persons who eat unhealthy sandwiches every day.

One doctor suggests that it may be one of the reasons that many unhealthy persons do not get heart diseases or the like.

So even if it is just in a burger, or a salad or more, a slice of tomato a day will surely allow you more time to play.
