Vitamin B6Vitamin B6 is a B complex vitamin that is present in a variety of foods naturally, discovered in 1934 by Paul Gyorgy a Hungarian physician and was isolated in 1938 by Samuel Lepkovsky from rice bran. Vitamin B6 is important during pregnancy for brain development, infancy and an excellent choice for immune function.
As mentioned before vitamin B6 can be found in foods naturally and is also added to foods like cereals. Vitamin B6 is presented in fish, organ meats like liver, poultry, fruits except for citrus, potatoes, spinach, mushrooms, turnip greens, tuna, garlic, cauliflower, cabbage, asparagus, kale, broccoli, tomatoes, salmon, squash, it is also available in dietary supplements, by its self or in multi-vitamins and many more foods.


Many people who have various illnesses will have difficulty absorbing the vitamin, illnesses like Crohn’s and celiac disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. Persons who do not get sufficient amount of vitamin B6 will have a range of symptoms like depression, confusion, itchy rashes, anemia, scaly skin especially on the lips, cracks at the corners of the mouth and weakened immune system. Infants who lack the vitamin can have seizures or experience hearing problems.


Research has been conducted by scientists to find out the effects of vitamin B6 and how it affects our health, even though studies have not shown where this vitamin can prevent diseases like cancer, insufficient amount of vitamin B6 in the body can put you at a higher risk of developing the disease. It is known to protect or treat diseases of the heart, reduce the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome such as anxiety, bloating and moodiness. It is even more beneficial for pregnant women because it reduces the symptoms of pregnancy like nausea and vomiting.


Vitamins are normally taken based on age and reproductive stage and although you can get them over the counter it is best to consult a health care practitioner before consuming it because it can be harmful if taken with other medications.


Vitamin B6 is also known to prevent and treat epilepsy, autism, depression, hypertension, eczema, acne, alcoholism, asthma, vaginitis and adrenal function.
